Effective Date: June 2026
When you share your story with Rights Require Routes (a project of CustodyCrisis.org), you are trusting us with sensitive information. This plain-language policy explains exactly what we collect, how we protect it, and your rights regarding your data.
We only collect the information you choose to type into the form. This includes:
When you click submit, your story is sent directly to a secure, private Notion database owned by Katie Copeland. It is not published publicly, it does not go to a public forum, and it is not accessible to anyone outside the research project.
We use these stories to identify systemic patterns in family court access. Depending on the permission level you selected on the form, your story may be used to inform research, articles, or advocacy materials. We will strictly honor the permission level you selected. If you chose "Research Only," your story will never be quoted or identified.
We retain the data for the duration of the research and advocacy project. Because this is an ongoing effort to document systemic issues, there is no fixed deletion date.
Your story belongs to you. If you change your mind and want your submission removed from our database, you have the right to request deletion at any time. Simply email katie@custodycrisis.org with the email address or name you used to submit, and we will permanently delete your record within 72 hours.
While we protect your data rigorously, we are not a law firm and this is not a legally privileged attorney-client communication. In the highly unlikely event that our research database is subpoenaed by a court of law, we may be legally required to comply. For this reason, we encourage you to only share what you feel safe sharing, and to utilize the "Anonymous" options if you have an active, high-conflict case.
If you have any questions about how your data is handled, please contact katie@custodycrisis.org.
